Web Hosting Company: StartLogic
Web hosting features and remarks: StartLogic offers an affordable Linux web hosting package. They were giving 5 GB of disk space with 100 MB of monthly bandwidth till recently. This web hosting provider currently offers more capacities for less.
StartLogic's recent campaign for their main web hosting product ProLogic has slashed the price. They ran a limited-time offer of $1 for 3 months over and over. But their low price doesn't promise you a comfortable stay. StartLogic's customer assistance is bad just like other web hosting providers. Don't be surprised if they don't answer your question within 3 or 4 days. When they introduced community forums back in October 2005, they were flooded with complaints. Furthermore, their entire system went down in October after intalling PERL scripts. It did again in March of this year. And they never offered an explanation for what happened. It was most likely computer viruses, and in fact some of the sites hosted by StartLogic captured them. One site owner even reported at a forum that his site was down for a couple of weeks.
There are a couple of good things about StartLogic. One is its data transfer speeds. You will get a maximum speed of around 480 Kbps for downloading and uploading. In addition, depending on web hosting plan you are currently using, StartLogic will give you coupons for Google and Overture's online ad placement.
Warning: StartLogic may renew your annual contract unless you e-mail them and specifically tell them that you do not wish to renew it. They indeed keep sending you a message that your website will be lost if you don't renew your contract. But then they will renew it and charge you on your credit card.
Updates
StartLogic often changes ProLogic's plan features. Compared with what it was five months ago, the price hasn't changed. But now StartLogic offers more at the same price. The available disk space has increased from 15 to 50 GB, and the monthly allowance of bandwidth from 250 to 750 GB.
May 19, 2008: StartLogic now offers unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth for ProLogic
February 8, 2007: Disk space increased from 50 GB to 200 and monthly bandwidth increased from 750 GB to 2,000 GB.
April 27, 2007: StartLogic updates Prologic plan by increasing disk space to 300 GB and monthly bandwidth to 3,000 GB.
