Criminals are everywhere on the Internet. The scariest part is that you don't know when you will become a cyber crime victim. It is also true that you may not even realize that you have become a victim of identity theft or website exploitation. Why are there so many exploited websites? That's mostly because website owners aren't even aware that their websites are exploited. We know that most crimes occur at night because of reduced visability. That's not exactly the case for the Internet because criminals can come from any part of the globe. A major problem facing the Internet community is that running a website has become easy and costless. Nowadays, there are many casual webamsters. They don't build their own content. Rather, they quote lines from other websites. So cyber criminals can start their business with little investment and knowledge.
Another problem is that cyber criminals think their identities are hidden. Several years ago, tools that Internet users could use to hide their identities were called anonymizers, which weren't always free. Nowadays, proxy servers are readily available. Another common tool that cyber criminals use is the anonymous domain. So what can we do so as not fall a victim to a cyber crime? That depends on who you are. Anti-crime measures are different, depending on whether you are a website owner or an individual as an Interner surfer. If you are a web site owner, you may want to read 'Security for webmaster.' (See the sidebar.) For Internet users, we have an article that tells you what to do so as not fall a victim to cyber crimes. Read 'Security for Internet users.' |
