MacHouse Domains: Domain Registration

 

There is nothing difficult in registering domains at MacHouse Domains.  Our domain store is located at www.mhvt1.net.  It's also accessible by connecting domain.mhvt.net, domains.mhvt.net and domains.mhvt1.net.

Prices shown in the screenshot to the right are temporary ones.  Current prices should be a lot cheapter.  Basically, we don't make even one cent for your registrations.

Anyway, please enter a name and check the boxes for the top level domains (TLDs).  Then press Search.

After running a search, you may find a domain that you would like to register.  Check the box for any domain you want to register and then press 'Add to Cart.'

Please scroll down and make sure that we are not selling anything that you don't want.  Only checked items will be put in your cart.

In the next screen, you will be asked to register an account.  If you already have an account, you can actually start the whole process by clicking on 'Login' at the top right menu at the very beginning.  Or you can login as shown in the screenshot shown to the right and enter your username and password.

If you don't have an account, please fill the form under New Customer Form.

By the way, why do you need an account?  After registering an account, you can change contact information at any time.  By logging into your account, you can set up nameservers, too.  Right, if you want to use your domain as an add-on, you need to designate nameservers.

If you proceed, you will see a summary of your transaction.  At this stage, you can add other items like domain transfers, Managed DNS Services, Digital Certificates...

Only if you are from Japan, a 5% consumption tax will be added to each of your order.  Otherwise, there is no tax.

For example, if you purchase Managed DNS Services, you can add additional A records, CNAME records to create your own branded URLs for long web addresses, nobody could remember, otherwise.  Make sure that an appropriate domain to which you are going to apply Managed DNS Services has been added. 

In our case, we are going to use Managed DNS Services with a new domain (mhvt2.net) we are buying.

This is the most important stage. There are 4 payment methods.  WebMoney is mainly for Russian people.  Money Bookers may be used to draw funds from your bank account.  If you wish to use a major credit card or PayPal, please choose PayPal.  No, you do not need a PayPal account to use a credit card through PayPal.

Yes, we have to ask you to pay for a processing fee for your transaction.  So an appropriate fee will be added to your order amount.

If you are not from the U.S. and wish to use PayPal, then please make sure you have checked the box for non-US account.  If you don't, an insufficient amount of money will be drawn from your credit card or PayPal account.  Therefore, you will end up sending the balance to complete your transaction.

For example, if you try to pay US$7.25 through PayPal without checking the box when in fact you are not from the U.S., then there will be an insufficient amount of funds to be sent by $0.07.

If you choose PayPal, you have an option of using your PayPal account or paying by credit card without having a PayPal account.  If you are going to pay by credit card, please click on Continue without providing your PayPal password.

Again, you don't need a PayPal account to pay by credit card with PayPal.  However, you must enter a contact e-mail address so that PayPal can send you a receipt.  Please also note that you will end up providing your name and address once again at this stage.

You can still abort your transaction.  If you click on Review Order and Continue, you will enter the final phase before actually paying.

Again, we don't make a penny out of accepting your domain registration.  But we do make $1 for each domain registration after one year.  So if you don't renew it, which you don't have to, we will make a zero revenue out of your domain registration.

MacHouse Domains: Why Are We Selling Domains?

Once good reason is that we are tired of crappy 2nd-year price increases by secureserver.net resellers.  We initially purchased a domain about 26 month ago from Cheap-DomainNames.com.  We decide to buy our first domain of our own from them through friend's introduction.  A .com domain cost us $8.10 at first.  Then they charge us by how much after the 2nd year?  $2.09 more!  Cheap-DomainNames.com or WebsiteSpot.com or whatever...  These guys are only resellers.  They don't have to do anything.  Customer support is all taken care of by secureserver.net.  They only have to pay for the Pro reseller package, a domain and web server.  And they charge $2.90 more for every domain after the 1st year?

So you should realize by now why we will benefit from selling domains.  We will benefit from doing it even without accepting registrations from you or others.  We have 5 to domains, depending on how you look at them, to take care of.  We can save $3 or more for every domain each year by selling them to ourselves.

Again, customer support is all done by secureserver.net.  We don't really know who is behind secureserver.net.  It could be GoDaddy.com or Wild West Domains.  If you write to secureserver.net, they will never reveal the name of the company, which makes us really uncomfortable.  And if you give them a call whether you are located in North America or overseas, you won't get a 4-digit PIN number.  Without it, you can't even change your password.  Furthermore, if you ask questions, it will take 3 to 4 days to get a reply.  So, we thought...  We can do a better job just for our domains, you know?

  1. Q: What will be 2nd-year prices?
    A: Following years, your will be charged $1 + the wholesale price.

  2. Q: Why are you selling domains?
    A: We only want to maintain the domains of our own without replying to GoDaddy or its evil reseller websitespot.com, which charges $2 to $3 after one year.

  3. Q: Is your customer support better than that of securepaynet.net?
    A: Yes and no...  If you have questions, please post them at MacHouse Forums.  We may not answer silly questions.

  4. Q: Why do I have to pay an order processing fee?
    A: Somebody has to.  We are selling domains at wholesale prices.  That means we would lose money every time we sell a domain and pay your processing fee.

  5. Q: Do you have any hidden costs?
    A: Hmm...  Maybe, consumption tax applied to Japanese residents and an order processing fee?

  6. Q: How long does it take till a domain transfer is completed?
    A: Please expect that it will take 7 to 10 days.  While a domain is being transferred, you will not be able to change nameservers unless you cancel it.
