False. They don't. Some search engines do offer special services such as
sponsored listing and express submission reviewing. But even with these
special services, the ranking of your site won't improve. However, there is a
rumor that some ODP editors accept money for fast review. We certainly don't
know if that's true. Furthermore, according to Yahoo!, the following companies
are Yahoo's 'authorized Search Submit resellers.'

• There are
many SEOs that guarantee No. 1 placements on major search directories. How do
they do it?
They simply can't. If they do, they do it illegally, accidentally or deceptively.
No. 1, none of them can have a special contract with any of major search
engine to increase your ranking. The process of determining page rankings
is automatically done. It cannot manually be intervened even if you bribe
employees of such search directories. Google claims that its PageRank "performs
an objective measurement of the importance of web pages by solving an equation
of more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms."
Nonetheless, some SEOs are said to use shadow domains. Some offer a placement
of your url on their site.

is over-submitted, will that do any harm?

Google says that no site will be removed or penalized as a result of over-submission.
• Will
my 'doorway page' get search engines to ban my main web site?
That depends on the purpose of having a doorway page. If you key-stuff a
page, which leads to your main site, with irrelevant keywords and/or key phrases,
then the spiders are most likely to catch you. Key-stuffing is a spamming
practice, and the purpose of doing it is to have your web site recognized with
the keywords that aren't concerned with the main subject.
• Will
Yahoo!'s Search Submit Express give me a better position on its search directory?
According to Yahoo!, the answer is 'No.' Yahoo's Search Submit Express service
only guarantees a quick review of your web site upon submission and regular visits
of its spider called Slurp.
• I have a better chance of getting my site posted
on major search directores wtih an SEO than submitting it for myself.
False. Not quite. If you are through with all the steps mentioned
on this site, you are pretty much ready to go. Yes, it is true that some
SEOs use sneaky tactics to get your web site well-positioned. But that's
the issue of the placement or ranking of your web site on search directories.
If you can't do it on your own, the best SEO can't have your web site posted on
a major search directory, either.
• I don't
have to submit my site to a search directory to have my site found.
True. You don't. Major search engines use spiders. As long as
your web site has inbound links to the sites that are in turn indexed by search
engines, they will find your site.
