Using Dual Domains to Host Websites
Let’s say you have a website. This website gets popular after some months or years. Then you now want to add a new domain name. The problem is that you don’t want to lose popularity at the first domain. But a new domain name is shorter and easier to remember. And you have several websites hosted at subdomains that come with the first domain. You could actually upload all the exact same files at the second domain. But you don’t want to update your websites at two different locations, do you? How about using one of them as a park domain or an add-on domain?
In fact, we use three domains. It may come as as surprise to you that we have one domain, which we aren’t really using. And two of them subscribe to the exactly same content. For example, go to our main video tutorial page at http://www.mhvt.net/quicktime/eng/vtc.html and then go to http://www.mhouse-j.com/quicktime/eng/vtc.html. Those two URLs are the same except the domains. No matter what page it is, what you see at one domain is exactly the same as what you see at the other domain. But we only update the mutual domain once, and two domains will be updated at the same time. How about our subdomains? We do have several of them including machouse.mhouse-j.com and seo.mhouse-j.com. Then go to machouse.mhvt.net and seo.mhvt.net. As for this blog, again, we only update the mutual subdomain once so that both seo.mhouse-j.com/blog/ and seo.mhvt.net/blog/ will be updated at the same time in the exactly same way.
How To
Let me describe briefly the way we created our dual domains. We first have the main domain. We don’t have to specify the name of this domain, so let’s call this domain MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM. We also have two more domains, which are MHOUSE-J.COM and MHVT.NET. These two names are the exact ones that we have.
First, we created a subdomain under MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM. This subdomain is a mutual folder or a superficial subdomain that never appears on the Internet. Let’s call this mutual folder MUTUAL.MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM.
Next, we registered MHOUSE-J.COM as an add-on domain that points to MUTUAL.MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM. Okay. This is the website that is accessible at WWW.MHOUSE-J.COM.
Let’s take care of MHVT.NET next. We registered MHVT.NET as an add-on domain. You probably can guess what comes next, but this domain points to MUTUAL.MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM. And this is the website that is accessible at WWW.MHVT.NET.
Subdomains
We also have several subdomains including MACHOUSE and SEO. First, we created MACHOUSE under MHOUSE-J.COM. Likewise we created SEO and other subdomains under MHOUSE-J.COM. Now, we have subdirectories labeled machouse and seo inside public_html. Okay. We want to make sure that, for example, MACHOUSE.MHOUSE-J.COM and MACHOUSE.MHVT.NET subscribe to the same content. It was a very simple solution, but we couldn’t figure it out so easily. Anyway, since two add-on domains MHOUSE-J.COM and MHVT.NET point to MUTUAL.MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM, all we had to do was to create the same set of subdomains under MHVT.NET. So we created MACHOUSE.MHVT.NET and SEO.MHVT.NET and other subdomains, which automatically point to machouse and seo inside public_html.
If you have two domains and want to use just one of them as an add-on, you should be able to make those two domains subscribe to the same content in the same manner described above. We have one domain, which we called MY-MAIN-DOMAIN.COM earlier. It is a free domain that we accepted at our new host. We don’t use it because if we don’t like this new host, we can always pack our stuff and go somewhere else with two other domains of ours. As we always say, never be fooled with a free domain offer.

MacHouse is not funded by tax payers' money. We have limited resources. We also need time to sleep and eat just as others. So we will not act as the International police to contact all victims of website abuse. All you have to do is to subscribe to spam messages and spam posts. If we can, why don't you?
