TOKYO (MacHouse) – University of Southern California Stevens Institute for Innovation has its website at http://stevens.usc.edu. According to the website,
USC Stevens Institute for Innovation is a university-wide resource for USC innovators in the office of the Provost. Designed to harness and advance the creative thinking and breakthrough research at USC for societal impact, beyond traditional academic means.
(Screenshot 01 shows the index page of Stevens Institute for Innovation’s website.) So why are we talking about USC’s website? No, we are not fans of USC Trojans. An organized cyber criminal group apparently hacked USC’s website to redirect Internet users somewhere else. Where’s the destination? It’s a junk online pharmacy website hosted at the domain of itsdrugstore.com. (See Screenshot 02.)

The organized criminal group has created a folder titled images right under the main public_html directory. And they have uploaded more than three dozen spam pages. As shown in Screenshot 03, we have reconstructed one of the spam pages. You could access one of the URLs shown below to see a spam page. (See Screenshot 04.) But you will be instantly redirected to a junk online pharmacy website.

Again, the sponsor behind this hack-and-spam campaign is the one running the junk online pharmacy website at itsdrugstore.com. Its web server is tracked to an IP address of 91.209.183.61. The server location is Russia.
