Four hosting companies have updated their hosting packages lately. So MacHouse has graphed their plans. The charts below compare different hosting packages in terms of disk space and monthly bandwidth.
Disk space
Monthly bandwidth
IX Web Hosting was the winner of Year 2006 as it offered large disk space and monthly bandwidth at reasonable prices. But the picture surrounding disk space and monthly bandwidth has changed this January. Although IX Web Hosting offers unlimited disk space with its Unlimited Pro, some other hosting plans (e.g. Lunarpages’ Basic and Business plans, Hostmonter’s package, Dot 5 Hosting’s plan and Globat’s Tera series) are now compatible with or even better than IX Web Hosting’s plans.
As some of the hosting packages come with unlimited disk space, there are big differences between those with unlimited and those with limited. The monthly bandwidth chart shows that one group of hosting packages comes with monthly bandwidth lower than 1 TB while the other group offers more than 1 TB. HostingRocket is currently the only hosting company offering unlimited monthly bandwidth.
As you know, the disk space and monthly bandwidth aren’t the only important factors. The best hosting package only depends on your needs. If you expect a lot of data traffic, HostRocket’s plan might be the best. Or if you expect to upload a lot of large files like videos, you might choose one of those four hosting plans that come with unlimited disk space. However, unlimited disk space may not be that important as active hosting companies update their packages every 3 or 4 months.
And there are other important factors. It is true that some people have had an unfortunate experience in getting their websites used for phishing. So they might consider security as the No.1 issue. Secure FTP is by no means the only solution for secure Internet use, but it’s one of easy things you want to consider getting. There are currently three hosting companies offering Secure FTP.
