Some 12 days ago, popular video-sharing website YouTube announced that they had expanded their Partner Program to more countries including Japan, Australia and Ireland. What is YouTube Partner Program again? According to YouTube, by joining this program, partners can get paid from “ad revenue sharing” and also participate in “new syndication opportunities.” So who is actually eligible and what are criteria? YouTube says “Applications are reviewed for a variety of criteria, including but not limited to the size of your audience, country of residence, quality of content, and consistency with our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.”
In the meantime, despite the fact that we have never sent an invitation to anyone, our videos have been collectively viewed more than 987,000 times. (See Screnshot 01.) For some reason, more than 820 people subscribe to our YouTube channel. For some reason… Right… We only have boring videos to make people more bored. Why do they subscribe to our channel? We really have no clue.

So are we eligible for YouTube Parner Program? Again, we have no clue. What we know is that YouTube contacted us in January 30 by saying
We thought you may be a good candidate. (See Screenshot 02.)
Again, let me repeat that it’s not we but YouTube who initiated contact. We are located in Japan. And we knew that their Partner Program was only open to those living in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. So we did not apply. Then YouTube expanded their Partner Program to more countries including Japan some 12 days ago. We were excited to join the program and were ready to upload dozens of unpublished videos. But several days later we were rejected.
What happened? We could be eligible 3 months ago and now we are not? So we contacted YouTube. Then they wrote
Our records show your signup country is China (in which the program is not yet launched), not Japan. (See Screenshot 03.)
China!? We were totally shocked. We know where we are. And we are not from China. In fact, none of us has ever been to China. Somebody from China has hacked our YouTube account? We checked, but no.
We wrote and told them that we are not from China. Then they wrote back and said that it was a misunderstanding. Nonetheless, they maintained that we are not eligible. (See Screenshot 04.) So we asked
So one of your representatives bothered to contact us in January 30 to let us know that we bould be eligible, and then you are now telling me we don’t fit your program? So your criteria have changed, huh!? (See Screenshot 04.)
Well… It’s been 4 days, and we haven’t heard from them. It’s most likely that we’ve been ignored. What a waste of time, huh!? Yes. We hate YouTube more than ever because they have wasted our valuable time. On the other other hand, YouTube makes money from their ads in part thanks to the videos that we waste our time and upload. That’s isn’t right.
