Princeton University “Point” Exploited to Host Online Games for Mac Users

TOKYO (MacHouse) – Everybody knows that Princeton University is one of America’s top high education institutes. According to its website, students (possibly only undergraduate students) have access to a system called Point. (See Screenshot 02.) I don’t know exactly what this system is because the door is shut for outsiders. If you see a Power Point file downloadable at cs.princeton.edu, it seems that students have access to a system called tigertrade where they can buy and sell things. (See Screenshot 03.) What else is Point used for? If they are Mac users, Point also gives them access to online games?

Nearly 9 and a half hours ago or at 08:38 AM (US PST), March 16, an affiliate spam group started circulating spam comments including links to point.princeton.edu. (See Screenshot 04-7.) “point” requires one to access the system. (See Screenshot 08.) Ironically, however, anyone can access the online game content hosted there without an account. (See Screenshot 09.)

So who is behind this affiliate spam exploitation at Princeton University’s website? If you see the source code of a spam page at point.priceton.edu, you can find a mysterious link. (See Screenshot 10.) That is hit.click2006.com. If you access this link, you will actually see a completely blank page. (See Screenshot 11.) But I’m sure the owner of this website has something to explain about this organized exploitation at point.princeton.edu.
