TOKYO (MacHouse) – It’s been a while since the last Bank of America phishing message entered our junk mail box. Just about one hour ago, an amateur cyberterrorist circulated a phishing e-mail message, implicating Bank of America. The message is likely to orginate from Western or Central Europe, possibly Czech Republic.

The title of the phishing message is “Please update your account informations.” (See Screenshot 01.) Just as other phishing messages that were sent out earlier this month, there are several spelling and grammatical mistakes. Apparently, this phishing message has been sent by someone with no formal education or one who has repeatedly failed his or her English composition classes.

If you see the source code of the message, it’s apparent that the e-mail message originates from Western or Central Europe. The message arrived at 11:56:32 AM (JST). (See Screenshot 02.) Because of the time difference, it was 02:56:32 AM in London and 03:56:32 AM in Paris and Prague (Czech Republic). That’s the time the cyberterrorist finished writing the e-mail message and sent it out. All time signatures are consistent along with corresponding time zones. Therefore, it appears that the phishing message originates from Western or Central Europe where there is a time difference of one hour with GMT.

Anyway, nobody takes phishing e-mail messages implicating Bank of America any more. Bank of America doesn’t. We don’t, either. The thrill is gone. The fear is gone. The threat is gone. The opportunity cost of reading this type of phishing messages is so little these days. There are many spelling and grammatical mistakes. Perhaps, those idiots behind this phishing operation should go back to school and finish their formal education before touching the keyboard.
